February 22 Fishing Report

The Greers Ferry Lake level is below pool for this time of year allowing for sporadic water releases for the Little Red River. Currently we are receiving power generation on weekdays and very little generation on weekends. With the warmer temperatures, we are seeing good bug activity with hatches of BWO and March Browns on the middle and lower river. For fly fishing, we recommend gold ribbed hare’s ear, pheasant tails, soft hackles, sowbugs and streamers. For Trout Magnet fishing, black and cotton candy colored bodies on gold jig heads are recommended. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system (501.362.5150) for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see forecasted generation...
Little Red Fishing Report 4.1.15

Little Red Fishing Report 4.1.15

Corps of Engineers started running two units today. It appears they will run them from 6AM through early evening daily. With this pattern, we should have fishable water mid river during the morning until the generation pushes in. It is raining hard here on the Little Red this evening, so expect a muddy river for a couple of days until the runoff is gone from the creeks and drainage areas. This generation pattern will allow for good drift fishing from a boat, but will not be conducive to wading. Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms and midges continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors continue to be hot pink body on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Greers Ferry Lake Powerhouse recording or check the Corps of Engineers website for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration forecasted generation...
3.24.15 Fishing Report

3.24.15 Fishing Report

We are currently receiving one unit of generation 24 hours a day. Expect this generation pattern to continue this week and probably through the weekend. The lake level is slightly over three feet from top pool. Moderate to heavy generation will continue until the lake level drops below pool level. This generation pattern allows for good drift fishing from a boat. Long leaders and added weight are recommended to get flies or Trout Magnets down for a good presentation. Streamers, san juan worms and midges continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors continue to be hot pink body on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Greers Ferry Lake Powerhouse recording or check the Corp of Engineers website for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration forecasted generation...
Quick River Update 3.19.15

Quick River Update 3.19.15

Just a quick river update for Thursday morning, 3.19.15. Last night’s rain has made the middle and lower sections of the river stained/muddy overnight. Two units of generation started this morning at 5AM creating high water fishing conditions on the upper river, but will clear out the stained water over the next...
3.17.15 Little Red Fishing Report

3.17.15 Little Red Fishing Report

We are currently receiving two units of generation around 10-12 during the day with the lake level at two feet (at the time of this report) above seasonal top pool. We are expecting heavy generation to continue until the lake level drops below pool level. The upper river is clear, fishing well, but will have high water due to the current generation schedule. Middle river is clear, fishing well and has good water levels in the morning before the generation reaches this area around 11:00AM. Lower river continues to be stained from recent rains and runoff. Streamers, pheasant tails, san juan worms and midges continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors continue to be hot pink body on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads.
