5.25.17 Fishing Report

5.25.17 Fishing Report

The Little Red River continues to see 12 hrs of daily generation. The generation begins early morning which provides some wadeable water downstream for a few hours each day and excellent drift fishing from a boat. When fishing higher water, use long leaders and add weight to get your fly or Trout Magnet down for a good presentation. For fly fishing, we recommend san juan worms, pheasant tails, sowbugs and streamers. Pink and red colored Trout Magnet bodies on chartreuse heads are recommended for spin fishing. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system (501.362.5150) for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see forecasted generation schedule....

New 2017 regulations for the Little Red River

Several changes have been implemented in the 2017 trout management regulations. Here is an overview of the new changes: • The 16- to 24-inch protected slot limit for all trout species on the Little Red River has been removed, and a five-fish daily limit with only one trout over 16 inches allowed is now in place. • The no culling regulation has been expanded to cover all species of trout on the Little Red River. Once a trout of any species is caught and placed on a stringer, in a fish basket or in a live well, it must be kept and counts toward an angler’s daily limit. • Mobility-impaired anglers may now fish on Collins Creek downstream of the wooden vehicle bridge in JFK Park. • The JFK and Mossy special regulations areas have been converted into year-round catch-and-release areas. • The Cow Shoals Seasonal Catch-and-Release Area is now a year-round catch-and-release area. • Fishing times at Cow Shoals Catch-and-Release Area are from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset from Oct. 1-Dec. 31. 5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

Since we have been dealing with chocolate water this week from all the rain, this week’s fishing report is brought to you from #1 Sore Lip’Em All Guide “Mousse”….. With the weekend rains, the Greers Ferry Lake level has jumped up over 8ft above conservation top pool. The middle and lower sections of the Little Red are stained from the various creeks’ runoff. Daily generation helps flush the stained water, so we should be in good shape in the next couple of days (unless we receive significant amounts of rainfall). Even though the lake level is high and the second generator is now online, we are hoping for favorable generation patterns with “windows” for drift and possibly wade fishing. We are seeing a good caddis hatch taking place when we have lower water levels. Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms and sowbugs continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors are hot pink, cotton candy and purple haze bodies on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Especially during this time of year, always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Greers Ferry Lake Powerhouse recording or check the Corps of Engineers website for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration forecasted generation...
Quick River Update 3.19.15

Quick River Update 3.19.15

Just a quick river update for Thursday morning, 3.19.15. Last night’s rain has made the middle and lower sections of the river stained/muddy overnight. Two units of generation started this morning at 5AM creating high water fishing conditions on the upper river, but will clear out the stained water over the next...
