8.29.17 Fishing Report

8.29.17 Fishing Report

Currently the Little Red is receiving around 2-4 hours of generation on weekdays and lesser amounts on weekends. We anticipate this generation schedule to continue unless we receive significant rainfall from the weather system moving up from the gulf coast later in the week. Midges, soft hackles and sowbugs, along with wooly buggers, are working well for fly anglers. Pink colored Trout Magnets are recommended for spin fishing. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system (501.362.5150) for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see forecasted generation...

6.17.17 Fishing Report

The Little Red continues to receive 12 hrs of daily generation. The generation pattern has changed just a little this week with water release starting midmorning instead of early morning. This pattern is providing excellent wading conditions for a few hours each day and excellent drift fishing from a boat. With the water release of two full units of generation, the river will rise quickly. So if wading, be observant of changing water levels and be aware of your surroundings for your safety. For fly fishing, we recommend sowbugs, midges, caddis pupa and streamers. Pink and red colored Trout Magnet bodies on chartreuse heads are recommended for spin fishing.

3.8.17 Fishing Report

This week’s rain has discolored the middle and lower sections of the Little Red while the upper sections remain clear. Scheduled generation this week should clear up all sections in a few days. Currently we are receiving power generation on weekdays and very little generation on weekends. With forecasted rains towards the end of the week and over the weekend, we will post river condition updates on here and our social media pages.  Warmer temperatures have produced good bug activity with hatches of BWO, March Browns and caddis on the middle and lower river. For fly fishing, we recommend gold ribbed hare’s ear, pheasant tails, soft hackles, sowbugs and streamers. Black and cotton candy colored Trout Magnet bodies on gold jig heads are recommended for spin fishing.

February 22 Fishing Report

The Greers Ferry Lake level is below pool for this time of year allowing for sporadic water releases for the Little Red River. Currently we are receiving power generation on weekdays and very little generation on weekends. With the warmer temperatures, we are seeing good bug activity with hatches of BWO and March Browns on the middle and lower river. For fly fishing, we recommend gold ribbed hare’s ear, pheasant tails, soft hackles, sowbugs and streamers. 5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

Since we have been dealing with chocolate water this week from all the rain, this week’s fishing report is brought to you from #1 Sore Lip’Em All Guide “Mousse”….. With the weekend rains, the Greers Ferry Lake level has jumped up over 8ft above conservation top pool. The middle and lower sections of the Little Red are stained from the various creeks’ runoff. Daily generation helps flush the stained water, so we should be in good shape in the next couple of days (unless we receive significant amounts of rainfall). Even though the lake level is high and the second generator is now online, we are hoping for favorable generation patterns with “windows” for drift and possibly wade fishing. We are seeing a good caddis hatch taking place when we have lower water levels. Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms and sowbugs continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors are hot pink, cotton candy and purple haze bodies on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Especially during this time of year, always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Greers Ferry Lake Powerhouse recording or check the Corps of Engineers website for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration forecasted generation...
