February 22 Fishing Report

The Greers Ferry Lake level is below pool for this time of year allowing for sporadic water releases for the Little Red River. Currently we are receiving power generation on weekdays and very little generation on weekends. With the warmer temperatures, we are seeing good bug activity with hatches of BWO and March Browns on the middle and lower river. For fly fishing, we recommend gold ribbed hare’s ear, pheasant tails, soft hackles, sowbugs and streamers. For Trout Magnet fishing, black and cotton candy colored bodies on gold jig heads are recommended. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system (501.362.5150) for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see forecasted generation...

June 11, 2015 Fishing Report

Greers Ferry Lake is over 10 feet above normal level. Currently we are receiving 2 units of generation beginning late morning and ending before midnight. This generation pattern is providing opportunities for wade fishing on the upper section of the river in the early morning hours and middle lower sections in the afternoons. Sometime in the near future we can expect heavy generation for extended periods as the Corps of Engineers lowers the lake level. Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms, egg pattern and sowbugs continue to work well for fly fishermen. Hot Trout Magnet colors have been red, purple haze, millworm and cotton candy bodies on gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Don’t forget free fishing weekend is noon, Friday, June 12, until midnight, Sunday, June 14. Residents and nonresidents may fish this weekend without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed. This is a great time to go trout fishing….look forward to seeing you on the Little Red! 5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

5.20.15 Little Red Fishing Report

Since we have been dealing with chocolate water this week from all the rain, this week’s fishing report is brought to you from #1 Sore Lip’Em All Guide “Mousse”….. With the weekend rains, the Greers Ferry Lake level has jumped up over 8ft above conservation top pool. The middle and lower sections of the Little Red are stained from the various creeks’ runoff. Daily generation helps flush the stained water, so we should be in good shape in the next couple of days (unless we receive significant amounts of rainfall). Even though the lake level is high and the second generator is now online, we are hoping for favorable generation patterns with “windows” for drift and possibly wade fishing. We are seeing a good caddis hatch taking place when we have lower water levels. Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms and sowbugs continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors are hot pink, cotton candy and purple haze bodies on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads. Especially during this time of year, always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Greers Ferry Lake Powerhouse recording or check the Corps of Engineers website for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration forecasted generation...

5.8.15 Little Red River Fishing Report

The Little Red continues to receive one unit of generation basically 24hrs a day. However, over the past few days the Corps of Engineers (COE) have been “pulsing” the second generator in anticipation of getting it back online sometime this weekend or next week. We continue to fish one unit of water. This past week we had some really good days with larger rainbows boated. With the erratic water levels, due to the COE pulsing the second unit, the last two days we have had to adjust depths and locations. With the continuous generation and sunny days, we have seen the lake level drop significantly this past week. As of today (Friday) the lake is only around 1 foot over seasonal pool. If we don’t receive substantial rain amounts this weekend and early next week, we will see a more favorable generation pattern for drift and wade fishing in the coming weeks. Until then…fish’em deep and use lots of weight! Streamers, hares ear, san juan worms and sowbugs continue to work well for fly fishermen. Trout Magnet colors are hot pink and purple bodies on chartreuse and gold Trout Magnet jig heads.
